Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum

Visiting Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum is a great way to explore an important event in the history of the Battle of Atlanta. A unique presentation of the historic Civil War battlefields of images Atlanta, which took place July 22, 1864.

Confederate troops of General Hood made a desperate attempt to save the advancing Union army under General Sherman in Atlanta. Painting commissioned a Union General John Logan in 1885. Some of the artists have previously worked for the European cyclorama. Panoramic painting measures 42 meters high and 358 meters in circumference. The battle scenes are very realistic. At the end of the painting was shown in Detroit, Indianapolis, and several other large cities. The painting was sold several times and finally bought the George V. Congress in 1893. Mr. Congress has been a resident of Atlanta, who founded the city of Grant Park Zoo Department of the city built to house cyclorama Grant Park. Provision Civil War Museum has two floors of displays, including weapons, uniforms, photographs and objects. Highlight the museum is the locomotive “Texas.” Raiders tried to interrupt the power supply rail lines between Atlanta and Chattanooga.

The incident became known as The Great Locomotive Chase.
